I am a licensed professional counselor out of Virginia and have been working in the field of mental health in some capacity for over twenty years. My interest have primarily been split between work with teenagers and adults with disorders of emotional regulation although I also have a strong love of philosophy and the getting into the larger existential questions. Before becoming licensed I worked as a school counselor at the elementary and high-school levels, as well as in a residential treatment setting. After deciding to move into the more clinical areas of the field, I began providing and supervising crisis services to individuals of all ages for a period of about 8 years and have been exclusively providing out patient therapy for about the last 3.
My approach is almost entirely strength-based, and I really enjoy when I'm able to help someone understand what function or value some particularly "crazy" behavior is actually providing them. Everything has a reason and unless we understand what good we get from our "bad" reactions, we won't be able to replace them with other things. First you have to build new supports before you start whacking away at the foundation of the house, otherwise it will simply collapse.
I'd love to help you figure out how to make sense out of things you don't understand, and use that to create the life you want.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
