More about Mary

  • 14 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW

My name is Mary Marks and I speak both English and Spanish. I have a Bachelor's in Psychology from Stony Brook University and a Masters in Clinical Social Work from New York University Silver School of Social Work. As a psychotherapist/clinician I work with adults struggling with biopsychoscial stressors and managing all psychiatric symptoms. I also do medication management and am knowledgeable in psychotropic medications. My main modality is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure Therapy for anxiety. I use Motivational Interviewing and psycho-education to guide patients to better coping and understanding their issues. Awareness and Mindfulness techniques, as well as managing stress through better self-care and modifying negative self-talk are my specialties. The therapeutic relationship; the rapport and trust established in this alliance as well as compassionate and supportive listening are paramount in healing and self-development. Helping clients to gain insight into their issues and resolving conflicts are valuable therapeutic goals. I also help clients process trauma, grief, and loss particularly related to the COVID 19 Pandemic. Also pet loss and Exposure Therapy are my specialties.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.
