I believe that in the therapeutic relationship, the therapist is the professional but the client is the expert. It is through empowerment, understanding, and collaboration that people can best heal and reach their goals. My areas of expertise include mood disorders (i.e., depression and anxiety) and substance use disorders. I take a trauma-informed approach, respecting the differences in life experiences and resiliency that we all have. For therapy to be effective, there must be trust, openness, and authenticity. As therapy can be quite uncomfortable, and even painful, one must be willing to lean into the discomfort to find growth.
My practice is based largely on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approaches. I guide individuals as they practice identifying, challenging, and replacing unhealthy ways of thinking and behaving that have contributed to the development, and perpetuation, of their problems.
One of the most difficult things to do is to put our hand up and admit that we need help. Whether we are struggling with loneliness, sadness, or uncontrollable worry, it can be challenging to talk about the thoughts and the feelings we are experiencing and I respect the difficulty one faces in asking for help.
May you find peace, happiness, and wholeness.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Highly recommend Richard. Life changing.
I have been working with Richard for five months, and he has taught me so many techniques to help me understand myself and my mind, and to assist me in being a better friend to myself. Richard has been so professional and supportive throughout our time together, and he has actively changed the way I will view myself, my thoughts, people around me and the world around me for the rest of my life.
Highly recommend
Richard is a great listener and is very kind. He offers interesting feedback on topics I had not considered. I consider the time spent with him to be valuable.
Richard understands me...from day one. He analyzes quickly and offers great counsel.
I could not rate Richard higher. Very easy to talk to and very supportive. I feel I’m making real progress working with Richard which is unlike past experiences I’ve had with Therapy.
Always helpful and responsive
I am a very fresh, new patient of Richard's but even thus far he executes my goals in therapy in a complimentary way for my thought process. Top drawer.
I love having Richard Watson as my therapist.
He’s the goat
I feel safe and look forward to my sessions with Richard. He is understanding and very generous with knowledge and material. I have seen improvement.
Really helpful and direct with the counseling but in the best way.
Richard has been great to work with. I would highly recommend!
Richard is an extremely professional therapist. I’m lucky that I got to be in therapy with him. He helped me gain confidence in myself.
Richard has a way of describing things very clearly. He breaks down complex ideas in a way that make it easy to understand. This comes together in a really supportive way, and feels like he understands what I'm feeling. When I am having a hard time explaining something or sharing, I never feel judged and he gives me the time and space I need to do so. I have only been working with Richard for a few weeks, but I look forward to our next sessions.
First time doing Therapy but Richard seems be to be top notch. Listens to my concerns and really seems invested in me reaching my goals.
I have had an understanding experience and enjoy my sessions greatly.
Richard is a very nice and understanding person. I'm a beginner in therapy and i can tell that his therapy methods are pretty helpful, so i have no doubts about his professionalism. He is also very patience which gives a confidence boost.
While I and Richard am currently in our second session (this may make this unanimous), we have had two good sessions so far. I look forward to seeing how it plays out over say the next 6 - 12 months depending on how I use the service.
Richard automatically makes you feel comfortable and that you are in good hands. He has a calming presence, creates a safe and trustworthy space to work through challenges with surprising ease. He certainly knows how to help navigate through anxiety and provided me with practical tools via his knowledge of CBT. He seems to know just when to provide validation, feedback, and skills. Richard is an asset to the BetterHelp team and I so appreciate our time working together.
Richard's kind and knowledgeable manner sets me at ease and allows me to explore my feelings to get help.
Richard has been so helpful in validating my feelings and helping me adjust my perspective. He's professional, kind, and easy to talk to.
Richard has helped me in finally feeling like I own my life instead of the other way around I was so stressed all the time and bitter and angry and very negative to myself in setting fairly high expectations and realizing most of them but failing in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and I finally feel like I have a grip on the wheel and control more than just myself but my surroundings surround yourself with what you know to be truths and come into anything atleast well knowledgeable and if you can't see ask questions before assuming the worst and when things do seem to be "Going against you" or "Not going your way" ask the most important question "Why?" Taking the time to think things through and why I do the things I do in a light I've never seen I finally have a direction and something that I can see and can attain and honestly I want to personally thank you for the help you've provided me
