I have many years of experience working with individuals from a variety of sociodemographic characteristics with a range of mental health diagnosis including but not limited to a spectrum of anxiety disorders, depression, insomnia, OCD, PTSD, as well as dual diagnoses (substance use disorder and complex mental health disorder). My theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In CBT, the focus of treatment is on the maladaptive thoughts or beliefs you have about yourself or situations in your life that can lead to distress (worries, sadness, anger), which then can lead to or contribute to mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and other more complex mental health diagnoses, etc.
In our first meeting, I will conduct a clinical interview in order to get to know you better as well as gather a thorough biopsychosocial history to understand your needs. Then based on your responses, we will have a discussion as to which of the many evidenced based psychotherapies will be the most appropriate for your treatment needs.
Once we make a shared decision about which of the above treatments is the most appropriate/most suitable to your treatment needs, treatment will entail the following: teaching you skills to help you better manage distress and Identifying and addressing the cause of your distress.
