More about Janis

You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or uncertain about how to move forward. Reaching out for support can feel difficult, but it is also a courageous first step toward healing and growth. I earned my Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and my Master’s degree in Counseling from The University of Texas at San Antonio. I bring more than 18 years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). I work with individuals facing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, life transitions, motivation concerns, and substance use recovery. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and empowering. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to help you build on your strengths, gain clarity, and create a more meaningful and fulfilling future.

My professional experience extends beyond the counseling office and includes serving as an LPC mentor, graduate counseling student mentor, and adjunct professor. I have also held national leadership roles, collaborated with professionals in international corporate settings, and served as a Peace Corps (PC) volunteer in both Malawi and Mexico. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for diverse cultures, resilience, and the power of human connection. Outside of counseling, I enjoy hiking, biking, fencing, and studying literature and poetry. My training as a competitive fencer, including preparation for the 1996 Olympic Games, continues to shape my values of discipline, perseverance, and lifelong growth. Whether you are navigating a difficult season of life or seeking greater self-understanding, I would be honored to walk alongside you as you move toward healing, resilience, and lasting positive change.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

One problem I have had with therapy and therapist in the pass is I felt like i wasn't being heard. That was totally opposite of my experience with Janis Edralin. She listened to my concerns, and I could tell she had empathy. That was a huge part of my decision to keep going to her. I don't wish to be coddled, just heard. I think she the kind of therapist I have been searching for.
